Watervale is situated about three kms from Inchanga Station, home of the famous Steam Rail Route.
Exciting historic rail trips can be undertaken and flea markets are held, with vendors selling all sorts of
interesting crafts and wares, mainly hand made. A stone's throw away, visitors will find the "Valley of a Thousand Hills" Route, along which the well known Comrades Marathon is run. It is one of the most picturesque drives in the world and is just 5 mins away from Watervale Lodge. It is in these hills where Zulu people still live in their traditional huts. The views are breathtaking - to be savoured slowly. The route comprises, besides magical views and plenty of restaurants, Arts & Crafts shops, with plenty of African crafts, cultural, rural villages, a safari park, crocodile park, snake park and other general shops. A number of beautiful game reserves are also located within 20 mins drive of Watervale Lodge. Durban, with its exciting new beach front and harbour/waterfront attractions, is a mere 25 mins along the N3 freeway, with historic Pietermaritzburg also 25 minutes away in the opposite direction.
